NTPC Limited, India’s leading power generation company, has invited competitive bids for the long-term supply of Agro Residue Based Biomass Pellets for its Lara Super Thermal Power Station located in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The tender forms part of NTPC’s biomass co-firing program, which promotes the use of agricultural residue-based renewable fuel in thermal power plants to reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable energy generation.


Published under GeM Bid No. GEM/2026/B/7653966, the tender seeks the supply of 146,730 Metric Tonnes of non-torrefied biomass pellets. The procurement is being carried out under NTPC’s Lot-1 package covering multiple thermal stations across India. For the Lara station, the successful bidders will be responsible for the complete supply chain, including loading, transportation, and delivery of pellets at the plant site.


As per the tender requirements, biomass pellets must comply with NTPC’s technical specifications and possess a Gross Calorific Value (GCV) ranging from 2800 to 4000 Kcal/kg. The pellets must be manufactured using agricultural residue and supplied in loose form. Transportation vehicles should be fully covered and moisture-proof to ensure material quality during transit.


The tender permits part-quantity bidding, enabling suppliers to quote quantities based on their available production capacity. NTPC has also incorporated quantity-splitting provisions to encourage participation from multiple suppliers and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability. Purchase preference benefits are available for eligible MSMEs, while the procurement is reserved for Class-I Local Suppliers under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.
