NTPC Limited, India’s largest power generation company, has invited online bids for the long-term supply of agro residue-based biomass pellets for its Korba Thermal Power Station located in Korba, Chhattisgarh. The tender forms part of NTPC’s ongoing biomass co-firing initiative aimed at reducing coal consumption and promoting sustainable energy generation.
The procurement is being carried out through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform under Bid No. GEM/2026/B/7653542. The tender was published on 17 June 2026, with the last date for bid submission fixed as 09 July 2026 at 15:00 Hrs. Technical bids will be opened on the same day at 15:30 Hrs. A pre-bid conference is scheduled for 26 June 2026 at 16:00 Hrs, enabling prospective bidders to seek clarifications regarding technical and commercial requirements.
Under this tender, NTPC intends to procure 1,92,720 MT of Non-Torrefied Biomass Pellets with a specified Gross Calorific Value (GCV) range of 2800–4000 Kcal/kg. The scope of work includes loading, transportation, and delivery of pellets at the Korba power station on an FOR destination basis. The pellets must comply with NTPC’s prescribed quality standards and technical specifications.
The tender permits part-quantity bidding, allowing suppliers to quote quantities according to their production capabilities. The minimum supply capacity requirement specified by NTPC is 14,600 MT. The contract duration extends over 730 days, offering a substantial long-term business opportunity for biomass pellet manufacturers, future pellet manufacturers, traders, consortiums, LLPs, cooperative societies, and other eligible Indian entities.
The tender is reserved for Class-I Local Suppliers under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative, requiring a minimum local content of 100%. In addition, eligible Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) can avail purchase preference benefits as per applicable government procurement policies. A Price Variation Clause (PVC) is also applicable, providing protection against fluctuations in input costs during the contract period.
